There are a LOT of rogue anti-virus utilities out there.  Please make sure you are using a REAL one.  Just Works suggests Kaspersky or AVG.

To help you figure out if you might have been scammed, here is a short list of signs you’re infected:

• Unable to load certain web sites, notably those of antivirus software manufacturers or computer security related sites.
• Pop-up ads that open randomly, especially if they seem to take you to the site of a competitor of the site you are looking at.
• Legitimate web sites won’t load – If CNN or Google are not accessible but other pages are, you might have a problem.
• You get an alert saying you are infected but then are required to spend money to purchase the “full version” or “removal utility”.
